Abstract

Disaster happens here and there, now and then on the earth which is hardly to be recovered without external helps. Many of volunteers are willingly to serve for victims. Unlike general volunteer works, they are exposed to a certain dangerous environment and asked to cooperate with many other workers from different areas. A systemic guidelines for disaster services should be given in formal currculum for volunteers to work in safety and with effectivness.
To develope a curriculum for disaster volunteering, its need was surveyed through questionnair from voluteers and staffs at Korean Red Cross who have experiences in disaster situation. As the result of survey, most of items were highly needed to be given in curriculum, but Logistics and Dealing Computer were relatively low. Based on the results and literature review, discussion, and expert consultation, the content were categorized into 7 subjects, Introduction to Disaster, Volunteer Management, Disaster Health Service, Mass
care, Dealing with Information and Goods, Disaster Communication, and Mock Disaster simulation. The curriculum designed for 16
hours of lectures, desk simulations, and practices. The final contents were refined through a workshop evaluation.
